What are blogs?

In short we could say that blogs are online diaries. For some they are the means to express their views, ideas, thoughts and opinions. For some they are the means to share their personal experience. Some use blogs to share photos, music, videos etc. In fact there are blogs which focus exclusively on these areas. They are MP3 blogs, video blogs, photo blogs, art blogs etc. Some blogs focus on comments or news updates for a particular subject. Most of the blogs are textual rather than that which contains photos, music or videos.
Apart from the above said multimedia blogs there are political blogs, travel blogs, house blogs, fashion blogs, project blogs, education blogs, quiz blogs, legal blogs etc. Also there are group blogging. Blogs such as club blogs and group blogs are used to provide information for their members and other interested users about their activities. Anyway most popular type of blog is personal blog. Personal bloggers would treat it as an online diary of themselves.
Another thing regarding the blog is that the readers of the blog could post their comment on it. Now there are more than 100 billions of blogs. Since people could express their opinion through blog, blogs have a political impact also. Thus media are also interested in tracking blogs.
Now it is possible to blog through mobile also. It is now popular as moblog. Starting as small blog writers some become famous writers. Just like some novel becoming movies some blogs are turning to novels and movies. Blog writers are becoming well known writers, journalists etc. A well written blog can help attract employers.
The famous blog ‘blogger.com’ was actually launched by Evan William and Meg Hourishan (Pyra labs) in 1999. Later it was purchased by Google in 2003.
The collective community of all blogs is known as blogosphere. Blogs are interconnected through comments, backlinks etc. Blogosphere is a new and fine spot for advertisement. Internet marketers are always tracking the new trends in the blogosphere. Several blog search engines are used to search blog contents. Examples of some search engines are Bloglines, Blogscope and Technorati. Some blogs are being used as evidence in legal matters.
There are people who make a lot of money through their blogs. How do they the money? When they have a couple of readers to view / read their blog, Google will send advertisements to their blogs on request. While viewers view there advertisements the blog owners get a small fraction of the amount which the advertisers have given to Google for promoting these advertisements. These small fraction will add up according to the advertisements being promoted n their blogs / sites.
For some people blogging is merely an entertainment while some others take it as a profession and are earning a favourable income.
